Mother Nature provides early gift to snow lovers

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-The morning of Nov. 12 brought a wintry gift that shattered snow and temperature records here as people woke up to snow dappled yards and wintry temps.

School was cancelled for many kids in the region and people headed out to work had to get an early start to scrape windshields.

“I had to wake up super early so I could thaw out my windshield and scrape off any of the ice and snow. I probably woke up 15 minutes early so I wouldn’t be late to work,” said Bowling Green resident Will Baker.

Most local students had their first snow day of the season, one that some say was a nice early holiday gift.

“I love snow days. We barely get snow days, so that makes me sad. We finally got one today, and I’ve been playing in the back yard all day,” said Fellowship Christian Academy student Nicole Young.

For those parents staying in with the kids, it means more bonding time that they wouldn’t get otherwise.

“It’s been a lot of fun. I get to take a break. I don’t have set hours, so it’s nice. I got to go outside with them a little. It’s kind of nice,” said Nicole’s mother Brandie Young.

While some would say the first snow of the season has brought a layer of beauty to the city of Bowling Green, some can’t wait for it to get warm again.

“I could do without it. I could definitely do without the snow and the cold. I love warm weather. I’d take the warm heat over this anyway,” Baker said.
