Beshear addresses Veterans of Foreign Wars State Convention in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear addressed the Veterans of Foreign Wars State Convention in Bowling Green.

Beshear spoke of his administration’s improvements to veteran’s care and the economy but said there is always more work to be done, especially considering veteran suicide rates.

“We don’t want to lose a single veteran to the mental and emotional scars that they endured during their service, and it’s our job to make sure that we’ve got the services needed,” Beshear said.

Beshear recently generated speculation of a 2028 presidential run when the Iowa Democratic Party announced that he would be the keynote speaker in July’s annual Liberty and Justice Celebration. The governor has downplayed those rumors but sees similarities in the two states.

“Iowa and Kentucky are both perceived to be states that are red, but I just don’t view it that way,” Beshear said. “I think they are states where people are practical, that we want candidates that are going to better their lives, that want people that show up and care.”

The Iowa Caucuses are always important to any candidate for president, but Beshear says he just wants to share the successes that Kentucky has seen and lower the political temperatures across the country.
