Butler County Animal Shelter has taken in over double its capacity

MORTGANTOWN, Ky. – It’s a worrying trend that is impacting animal shelters across south-central Kentucky.
The Butler County Animal Shelter says it is under a code red.
The shelter stated that it already has 80 dogs and cats in its care despite it having a capacity for only 31. The calls keep coming for them to take in more, rescuers say.
The shelter says if you need to reach them, leave a detailed message, and they will get back to you.
Shelter hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., but later appointments may be possible. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the location remains closed Wednesday and Sunday.
