2 from Logan County arrested in Hopkinsville on drug charges
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Two people from Logan County are facing multiple charges after a traffic stop on Tuesday in Hopkinsville.
According to a uniform citation, the Hopkinsville Police Department was traveling behind a black Chevy pick up truck that had an obstructed view in the windshield, leading to a traffic stop on West Seventh Street.
Police say the operator was identified as 45-year-old Eric Covington of Lewisburg, Kentucky.
According to police, a K-9 unit was deployed, and a search revealed the passenger, identified as 47-year-old Tonya Covington of Lewisburg, Kentucky, possessed a large amount of suspected methamphetamine.
Officers say a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of more methamphetamine, unknown pills, suspected marijuana, a scale and other paraphernalia.
Eric Covington was given a written warning for the traffic violation and arrested on multiple charges, including first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (drug unspecified) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Tonya Covington was arrested and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (drug unspecified), possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.
Both were transported to the Christian County Jail.
