Woman charged with concealing birth of infant in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A woman has been taken into custody after a newborn was found dead in Bowling Green on Wednesday night.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department received a call Wednesday, May 29 about a possible miscarriage after an infant was found in the bathroom of 3240 Scottsville Road.
Police responded around 8 p.m., where they say the female who was alleged to have been in the bathroom walked away from the scene.
According to police, witnesses allege the woman had attempted to flush the infant down the toilet. Police say upon arrival, they located a recently born infant dead.
Police say 35-year-old Shaniqua Caldwell matched the description witnesses gave. The uniform citation states they located Caldwell standing in a nearby parking lot. Police says she refused to be evaluated by EMS.
Caldwell was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to the Medical Center at The Bowling Green for evaluation. Caldwell was transported to the Warren County Detention Center upon her release from the hospital.
An autopsy is pending at this time.
Bowling Green Police Department public information officer Ronnie Ward stated Thursday the investigation is ongoing.
Additional charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation, police say. Caldwell currently faces a charge of concealing the birth of an infant.
