Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green prepares ahead of summer season
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Students from several districts are out of school for the summer, and The Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green is gearing up to ensure the students have everything they need to have a successful summer.
The CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green, Liz Bernard Clark, tells us how important having the Boys and Girls Club is.
She says, “It is not just a tagline, like we are first and foremost a safe place for all young people. That is our number one priority. And that doesn’t just mean physical safety. It’s emotional well-being. It’s all encompassing.”
The impact that donations have on the students that come to the Boys and Girls Club is long lasting and can change their life. Keandrea Comer, a Youth development professional and a former student at the Boys and Girls Club, told us her experience and how it has impacted her.
Keandrea says, “I never would have seen myself working at a Boys and Girls Club for women, because I was like, ‘no, I’m not a kids fan.’ But being here, I feel like it made me learn like a kid’s mindset and all ages. It made me know, like, what works best for them, what doesn’t work best for them.”
Creating a space where kids can feel safe is what keeps them coming back to the Boys and Girls Club, and the connections created now in the present can impact them in their future.
Clarkalso shares the main goal. She says, “We ultimately are doing all of these things to help them become good people. And, so, you do see a shift in that character. They’re learning and ultimately, they will be great adult citizens.”
