Local first responder shares the importance of National EMS Week
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In 2024, National EMS Week is May 19 through May 25. National EMS Week is meant to acknowledge those who pledge their waking hours to help save those in need and just show a little appreciation.
They don’t do it for the thanks, but it always feels nice to hear anyway. Many of us come home from work every day without ever hearing those words “thank you” but for EMS, they hear it often. Whether it’s a wreck, a fire or trouble breathing, EMS makes it their mission to help as many people as they can every day.
News 40 stopped by Med Center EMS Headquarters and spoke to a field supervisor about his career in a brief interview. Michael Lasala told us that “it’s not for everyone, it’s a calling. It’s not a job to me…”
Lasala said over a 24 year long career, he’s seen anything you can think of. When asked if there was ever a day where he thought EMS work wasn’t for him, he said “of course… you’ll see things that’ll stay with you forever”, but he wouldn’t trade it for anything.
