Scottsville K-9 helps bust 19 pounds of methamphetamine

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – Nearly 20 pounds of methamphetamine are off of the streets in Simpson County thanks to local authorities.

The Scottsville Police Department’s K-9 Morgan, along with the Allen County-Scottsville Crime Task Force, worked a traffic stop, leading to the drug seizure last week, according to a social media post by Onpoint K9 Academy.

The drug bust reportedly took place on Interstate 65 in Simpson County.

The Allen County-Scottsville Crime Task Force says the Kentucky State Police initially stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on March 22.

The vehicle was registered to John E. Marks of Scottsville, Kentucky, authorities say. The task force says the search resulted in a positive alert from the K-9 and the seizure of nearly 20 pounds of suspected crystal methamphetamine, marijauana and an ounce of suspected cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia.

Marks was arrested and transported to the Simpson County Detention Center.

He faces charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine), first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (greater than or equal to 4 grams of cocaine), drug paraphernalia -deliver/manufacture and possession of marijuana.

The investigation lasted over the course of six months, authorities say.
