Feed the Need gathering donations to help local families

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – United Way’s Feed the Need brought volunteers together Friday for a common cause.

The food drive was created in response to the increased need in our communities for access to basic needs.

On Saturday, March 16, Feed the Need, organized by United Way of Southern Kentucky, continues at several locations by taking donations to fight food insecurity.

All donations benefit food banks in the county where donations were collected. If you donate in Allen County, for instance, you’re helping an Allen County family.

Speaking to volunteers, the need for food is great in southern Kentucky, and every item counts.

“The statistics say through Feeding America that about 18% of families in the area suffer from food, insufficiencies. And then there’s quite a few more that are right on that borderline of falling either way. You know, they’re just making it,” Tim Allen with the SOKY Patriots says.

Allen says he knows several nonprofits off of the top of his head that benefit greatly from the annual Feed the Need program and asks that anyone just donate what they can to the cause.
