Tops take on The Peoples Championship as spring continues

ST. SIMON’S ISLAND, Ga. (WKU SPORTS) — The spring season for the WKU men’s golf team continues this week as they travel to St. Simon’s Island, Georgia to compete in The Peoples Championship, hosted by Western Carolina. This comes after the red and white took home a runner-up finish at the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Texas.

The Tops will be trying to continue their momentum going into the spring season. WKU competed in this tournament last year, where they took home a seventh-place finish in a 20-team field.

WKU is set to compete on the par-71, 6664-yard Sea Palms Resort.

Luke Fuller is at the top of the card for WKU. The graduate student was instrumental in WKU’s runner-up finish in Georgia. Fuller placed fourth overall after shooting a 2-under 69 in back-to-back rounds.

Stephen Warren and Nic Hofman are next up on the card for the Tops. Both golfers finished within the top-20 in their last tournament. Warren and Hofman both tied for 17th after turning in a 6-over 219 total score.

Junior Riley Grindstaff is getting his first look for the Tops in the spring. In his last showing for the Tops at the JT Poston Invitational, Grindstaff finished 64th in a 100-player field.

Connery Meyer rounds things out for the Tops. Meyer had a top-50 finish for the Tops in Georgia. The senior finished tied for 46th after a 7-over 78 final round.

The three-day tournament tees off on Thursday, March 7. Tee time for the Tops is slated for 9:00 A.M.
