GLASGOW, Ky. – A group of Glasgow Independent School students are joining together for a common cause. The Barren River Animal Welfare Association in Glasgow has faced countless flooding problems, and the students want to help.

Back in June 2023, BRAWA was flooded during a severe storm. The shelter sits next to a river and somewhat downhill from the road, making it vulnerable to flood water. According to the school district’s website, the shelter has flooded three times since 1996.

BRAWA was been looking to American Engineers to find a solution.

Now, these students want to assist the shelter by raising money for a flood plan. Their group, Helping Paws, is asking for donations in exchange for classroom prizes.

Some of the rewards for South Green Elementary students include extra recess for the top fundraising grade level. Second and third place homerooms can look forward to a popcorn party, while the top homeroom will get a puppy party.
