BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A former Bowling Green Junior High School Lady Purples basketball coach is facing several charges.

According to a uniform citation, 34-year-old Avery Driver was arrested on Tuesday around 10:15 p.m. at a home on Lamplighter Court after law enforcement received several calls that Driver was trying to gain entry.

Deputies say that Avery was trying to break into the home and had sent threatening messages to his ex-wife that included a threat to kick in the door.

Deputies say that they could see the door frame splintered and broken when they arrived and that someone had forcibly tried to get in.

The female victim told police that Avery had been stalking her at work and was afraid of what might happen, the uniform citation states.

Driver was arrested and taken to the Warren County Detention Center, where he faces second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree terroristic threatening charges.

The district confirmed the arrest and that Driver was the BGJHS girls basketball coach but not a full-time employee. In addition, the district confirmed the arrest with an email that was sent to members of the team on Wednesday, which includes the following:

“Parents of BGJHS Lady Purples Basketball:

I am writing to inform you that coach Avery Driver and assistant coach Amaya Lasley will no longer be coaching the Lady Purples basketball team. I met with the girls team this afternoon to let them know that Melanie Morrison, who has served as an assistant coach, will take over as head coach for the remainder of this season.

Avery Driver was arrested last night, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, on charges unrelated to his employment. However, due to these circumstances, he will no longer continue his role as a coach at our school.

Assistant coach Amaya Lasley has resigned from her coaching duties as of January 17, 2024.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
