KYTC preparing for another round of winter weather

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 is getting prepared for another Winter Weather Advisory.
Transportation officials are warning about possible freezing rain, ice accumulation and minor accumulation of snow. The U.S National Weather Service Louisville says the new advisory will last from 11 a.m. Thursday through 6 p.m Friday
As a result, travelers should be prepared for hazardous conditions. However, transportation officials say salt has already been applied days ahead and should improve roadways.
Please use slower speeds during this time, and leave plenty of space between vehicles, including snow and ice vehicles that are treating and clearing roads.
According to KYTC, tips for driving during predicted conditions include the following:
- Try to avoid driving at the peak of weather activity.
- Drive with a full tank of gas and pack an emergency car kit.
- Winterize your vehicle.
- Drive slowly with snow and ice present on roads.
- Allow more travel time for commutes.
- Slow down when approaching ntersections, off-ramps, bridges or shaded areas, all areas that are at risk for “black ice.”
- Eliminate distractions while driving.
- Maintain a safe distance from snowplows. Do not pass them on the shoulder of roads.
