Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – All across the country, communities are celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in various ways. In Russellville, for the past 38 years, the Neblett family has organized a community MLK event geared at the young minds of Logan County.

The event speaker this year was Kamero Neblett, a principal in the Bronx area of New York City. Neblett spoke to hundreds of students today at the Logan County Courthouse, where the topic of discussion today was spreading love, understanding others and serving humanity.

Neblett said he’s a big fan of King, especially his philosophy of nonviolence. Much of the teachings and rhetoric concerning King and the civil rights movement is a little dense for young people, so Neblett just decided to articulate only a few lessons that King imparted.

News 40 spoke to the event speaker, who told the station that “history is history” and argued that “school should get deep”. Neblett feels that discourse is healthy in the school system and that just looking at things on the surface does a disservice to everyone.
