City of Bowling Green to see occupational tax increase

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The City of Bowling Green will see an occupational tax increase starting January 1, 2024.

The new rate will see no more than around a $3 difference between withholdings in the previous rate to this new one.

The previous rate was 1.85%, while this new rate sees a 0.15% increase.

The city has not named a specific area these additional funds will go to yet.

“We don’t have it earmarked for any one special thing. It’s going to be pretty much distributed across the board in the general fund to help cover basic services of the city. We have a growing population. We think we’ll probably be… we could hit 90,000 people by 2030,” City Manager Jeff Meisel says.

Around 49 cents of every dollar will go towards public safety, with the rest going to Public Works, Parks & Rec, General Government Funding and Neighborhood and Community Services.
