Glasgow twin students get a helping hand

GLASGOW Ky.-A Glasgow teacher has gone above and beyond for two students.
5th grade twins at Highland Elementary School, Palin and Elijah Heacock both have rare genetic disorders.
Palin has Fabry Disease, which is a genetic disorder that causes pain in the hands and feet and results in a rash. Elijah has Eosinophilic Esophagitis, which results in inflammation of the esophagus.
Both students are very close to Kim Emberton, who is a third-grade teacher at the school.
Throughout the day, Emberton makes sure the twins have what they need to have a fun and successful day at school. She constantly checks on Palin and assists Elijah with a feeding tube.
Emberton said getting to know these students was rewarding.
“That’s what makes it worth it. Those hugs, those smiles are worth a little bit of extra effort,” Emberton said.
Around 11,000 Americans carry the Fabry gene, and roughly 150,000 people have EOE.
