Andy Beshear visits Bowling Green to discuss healthcare
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Kentucky’s gubernatorial elections are right around the corner, and Attorney General Andy Beshear (D-Ky) is one of the candidates hoping to unseat Governor Matt Bevin (R-Ky) in the November elections. On Wednesday Beshear was in Bowling Green discussing healthcare.
Mr. Beshear was joined by State Rep. Patti Minter Wednesday morning, as the pair took a tour of Western Kentucky University’s School of Nursing and Allied Health.
While on the tour Beshear shook hands with students, and learned more about the school’s recent decision to admit more applicants in the wake of a national nursing shortage.
Beshear also talked about supporting health care protections for those with preexisting health conditions, something he says stands in opposition to what Gov. Bevin has proposed.
“We’re going to make sure that we’re providing accessible healthcare Kentuckians and we’re eliminating that medicaid waiver that would kick 95,000 people off coverage. We’re going to make sure that our values are shown in our budget, and that includes the type of funding we need right here at WKU to graduate more nurses,” said Beshear.
While in town, Beshear also visited the picket lines at the Corvette Plant, where he talked to workers who are now in their 10th day on strike.
