1 injured, 1 arrested after shooting in Letcher County

MCROBERTS, Ky. – One person is injured and another is arrested after a reported shooting in Letcher County on Monday.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, the Kentucky State Police says it received a 911 call reporting a shooting on Sheas Fork in the McRoberts community of Letcher County.

Authorities say they responded to the scene and located an adult male with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Troopers say the victim was treated on scene by emergency medical personnel before being transported to Whitesburg ARH Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Authorities say through a preliminary investigation, 65-year-old Hibert Tackett of McRoberts was identified as the suspect.

Tackett fled the scene prior to law enforcement arriving but was later found and taken into custody without incident, according to troopers.

Tackett was charged with first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

He was lodged in the Letcher County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
