KSP: 2 dead after multi-vehicle collision on I-65
SIMPSON COUNTY, Ky. – Kentucky State Police trooper Daniel Priddy has confirmed two fatalities after a collision on Interstate 65 Sunday.
KSP says it responded to the scene of the collision at the 12 mile marker southbound on I-65.
According to Simpson County judge-executive Mason Barnes, Franklin-Simpson Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene, which involved three vehicles.
Barnes confirmed one fire truck was rear ended and has been totaled. Authorities have also confirmed two fatalities of the occupants in the vehicle that hit the fire truck.
Identities have not been released at this time.
Barnes says a Simpson County firefighter was in the truck during the collision but is okay. The firefighter is being checked at a hospital as a precaution.
As of around 2 p.m., a detour has been set up directing traffic to exit 20 onto Interstate 165 northbound, according to Priddy. Priddy says vehicles will then be directed to exit 3 on I-165 to Nashville Road south, where they can re-enter I-65 at exit 2 in Franklin.
We will update as further information is released.
