Traffic Safety Checkpoints on July 3
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Sheriff’s office is setting out to keep the streets a little safer starting next Monday.
News 40 spoke to Sheriff Brett Hightower ahead of some checkpoints that will be set up on KY-185 and Garvin Lane next Monday at 9:30 p.m. that are meant to keep down alcohol-related crashes and other traffic violations.
Hightower said it’s an opportunity to both connect a little with the community and protect motorists as they look out for things that could prove troublesome, including but not limited to intoxicated drivers.
According to research from the CDC and the National High Traffic Safety Administration, communities can decrease alcohol-related crashes and other violations by 20 percent when conducting proper traffic checkpoints.
Hightower said they’re relatively fast if everything is in order, just 20 to 30 seconds. The sheriff also said depending on manpower, weather conditions and other factors, these couple be monthly or bi-monthly up till October.
