Deaf cat up for adoption
BUTLER COUNTY, Ky. – Ralphie can’t hear well, but that doesn’t have to change much of anything.
Butler County Animal Shelter spoke about a cat that is deaf that they posted on Facebook. You may wonder what it’s like to care for a deaf pet – it turns out it’s not as complicated as you may think.
Makayla Lowe-Sikes with the shelter told us that it doesn’t have to be much different than any other pet, just to be slow when approaching and keep them inside. Since Ralphie can’t hear, he would be easily startled and vulnerable to outside conditions, such as predators or traffic.
Lowe-Sikes said when it comes to stimulation, a deaf cat would be more interested in things like brushes or rough objects rather than typical cat toys that make noise with bells attached.
