Law enforcement warn motorists to slow down in school zones
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. Local law enforcement is reminding the public that school is now back in session and school zones are in effect.
Kentucky State Police are patrolling school zones and writing tickets for people speeding.
A few seconds saved could mean the difference between a child growing up, and the end of a young life.
“I would never want to live with that on my conscience,” Bowling Green mom Claudia Russell said.
Fines in a school zone are doubled which can end up costing a driver more than $200 for speeding through them.
“When we pull people over, it’s not because we enjoy it, it’s because we want to keep something critical from happening,” KSP Trooper Daniel Priddy.
School zones are identified by signs or flashing lights to remind motorists to drive the speed limit.
Parents encourage drivers to pay attention in school zones and in neighborhoods when children could be near the roads.
“You don’t see them, and when you see them it’s too late,” Russell said.
School zone times are different for each school. Police urge drivers to pay close attention when they are driving in the morning or afternoon.
Drivers are also required to stop when a bus has its red stop arm out.
