Senate Bill 115 would ban drag performances 1,000 yards from residences, schools, and more
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Senate Bill 115 would limit where adult-oriented businesses, such as drag shows, can be in Kentucky.
The bill calls for restrictions about where they can be performed- it would ban drag performances within 1000 yards of schools, churches, parks, trails and residences.
It also applies to restaurants that would host a drag show.
Many drag performances here would be banned from establishments that have held them for years.
“You’re trying to classify us as a registered sex offender and that’s what I feel is happening here. This bill is targeting bigotry and hatred,” said Miss Kentucky FI Queen Venus Knight.
“To me it sounded like it’s a way to legalize bigotry. I don’t see how drag performances are any different than going to a Miley Cyrus or Beyonce concert,” said Professional Drag Entertainer Geneva Ladiva.
If passed, establishments that fall under these regulations could continue operations until summer of 2025.
