Attorney General Daniel Cameron has released a statement regarding House Bill 300, which would criminalize abortion in Kentucky.

In his message on the matter, Cameron stated the newly filed bill would allow criminal charges against pregnant women who have had an abortion. The attorney general also says they could be prosecuted for homicide.

Cameron stated, “While I strongly support prohibiting abortion in Kentucky, I just as strongly support helping pregnant women. Pregnant mothers deserve our help, support and life-affirming options, not to face criminal charges.”

Cameron says the current law in Kentucky, the Human Life Protection Act, does not allow pregnant women to be prosecuted.

He further stated he hopes the General Assembly will not pass the bill.
