New VA policy helps Veterans get help in suicidal crises

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Good news for Veterans! VA is rolling out a new policy to help Vets get the help that they need.

The new policy states that all U.S. Veterans in suicidal crisis will be eligible for free mental health care at any VA or private facility.

This includes 30 days of inpatient care and 90 days of follow up outpatient care at no charge to the Veteran.

This new policy will be, quite literally, a lifesaver. More than nine million Veterans are either not enrolled or not eligible for VA care.

“A lot of barriers have to do with being a burden to their family. What we’ve learned is a lot of veterans who think about suicide or take their own lives is cuz they already feel like a burden to their family. So the last thing they want to do is create this astronomical hospital bill by going and seeking treatment,” said Veteran’s Club Inc. Founder and CEO Jeremy Harrell.
