Horse Cave receives historic preservation grants
HORSE CAVE Ky.- There’s a city in Kentucky where history lives. Horse Cave.
The history rich city has received two grants from the Kentucky Heritage Council and the State Historic Preservation Office. One grant is valued at $3,779, and the other at $14,446. Horse Cave Mayor Randall Curry said this grant money will go toward a good cause. Historic preservation.
“It’s important that we preserve our history because today, tomorrow, and forever is our history. I think it’s vitally important that our young folks can be able to see and hear that,” Curry said.
Curry isn’t alone on this. Those who run businesses like antique shops and bookstores already showcase the city’s history and are ready for more ways to do that.
“I think it’s fabulous that they’re trying to preserve as much of our local history as what they can. It’s wonderful that we’re getting grant money as well to help out with this effort,” owner of A Walk-Through Time Antique Shop Emry Riley said.
Curry said having the Horse Cave community back him on these projects make it all the more worth it.
“I have a small group of people who are really dedicated and have the same focus and values that I do about preserving the history of Horse Cave,” Curry said.
Focus and values that will stand the test of time.
“I’m just grateful that we’re able to maintain and keep some of that history going. Hopefully for future generations, they’ll know and understand some of the basics and values that of the city of Horse Cave,” Curry said.
The Horse Cave Architectural Review Committee is currently looking into what historic preservation projects can be done with the available grant money.
