Park City tries to jump on the bourbon trail
PARK CITY Ky.- A diner, a bed and breakfast and a walking trail, what is Park City missing? Its own distillery. Thanks to some help from the Barren County Economic Authority, $110,000 was awarded to Park City, who is attempting to earn a spot on the bourbon trail.
Park City Mayor Larry Poteet said this possible opportunity would do wonders for the city.
“If we get a tasting house and get on the trail of that, the overflow of the tourists coming in would reach Cave City, Glasgow. The agricultural part would help the farmers around here with the corn-based selling to it. It would be a big win-win for everybody,” Poteet said.
For this vision to become a reality, a deal was made with a landowner. An environmental study is currently being conducted to make sure everything would work well for a distillery. After that study, the green light will be given to buy the land, further improving city developments.
“We’re improving our little town little by little. We had three new businesses open this year alone. We’re getting some grants for sidewalks that will continue to tie into Mammoth Cave,” Poteet said.
Poteet said this is a team effort that will benefit surrounding areas.
“It’s not just for Park City, it’s for Barren County. That’s the big win, when you can win for your whole County, it’s a great opportunity. Counting the jobs, it will bring into the county and the city also,” Poteet said.
Only time will tell if Park City will officially be on the bourbon trail.
“It’s an exciting project. I just hope everything continues rolling forward. We just have to take little steps and at the end it’ll be one big step,” Poteet said
