LEXINGTON, Ky. (WLEX) – Sophia Rosing, a student from the University of Kentucky, is in police custody after allegedly assaulting a student employee, Kylah Spring.

Footage of the attack was released onto social media, and throughout the clip, Rosing is heard shouting racial slurs.

Spring explained it all happened around 10 a.m. Sunday morning at Boyd Residence Hall, where she was working as a desk clerk.

She says Rosing came into the building and appeared inebriated.

When she and some other students tried to help, she says Rosing launched into an attack, calling her a racial slur and trying to hit her several times as Spring was seen holding her off and begging her to stop.

The video showed Rosing throwing several more punches and appearing to try to hit Spring with a shopping cart.

Meanwhile, the video posted on TikTok racked up millions of views before being removed. Rosing allegedly used a racial slur with Spring and other students at least 33 times before police showed up.

Rosing was arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, third-degree assault of a police officer, fourth-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Rosing is answering to several criminal charges later this afternoon.

UK president Eli Capilouto also released a statement, saying in part, “From my view of the video, the student worker acted with professionalism and restraint and discretion. We will fully investigate what happened tonight, but we also must learn from this moment and do better as a community.”
