National Free Comic Book Day draws in new generation of fans

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – May 7th is a day all comic book lovers have marked on their calendars each year.

Once again this year, comic shops, book shops, and even the Warren County Public Library joined in on National Free Comic Book Day.

National Free Comic Book Day started twenty years ago, and two decades later, new generations fall in love with heroes like Spiderman and Batman through these treasured comics.

One Bowling Green comic book store owner says he read comic books and fell in love with the heroes long ago. Now, his daughter reads the comics and his shop and has done the exact same.

The Archives owner Mike McKinney says, “It’s a great day. Great turnout. Fantastic kids, families. Just a good day. You can’t complain at all… Marvel, DC, it’s just a part of our life. They’re actually a part of our life every day. You see them everywhere.”

McKinney says comics are great for people to get into, and with all the superhero movies in recent years, now is the perfect time to jump in.
