Kids dressed as historical figures Tuesday at W.R. McNeill Elementary
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On Tuesday, third-grade students at W.R. McNeill Elementary dressed as historical figures they had researched for the school’s annual Wax Museum.
Students assembled galleries to present facts about their chosen character for families, guests and other students. The event was held in the gym and a total of about 87 students took part.
One McNeill student, Leala, dressed as Sojourner Truth.
“I like how she fought for women’s rights and how she helped a lot to gain black people’s freedom,” said Leala.
Dana Duncan, a third grade teacher at McNeil who led the project, said this was her 20th year of doing the wax museum and that many different teachers helped make the event possible and put in a group effort.
“Everyone in the school does such a good job,” said Duncan.
“The students love today. It’s more fun than Halloween because they are dressing up in costume. They’re getting to come to school. They know they’re getting to spend the day telling people and they are the expert.”
The event offers a way for students to combine reading, writing, arts and humanities.
“It’s a great day to come to school,” said Duncan.
