Woman rescued after fall in Mammoth Cave

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A 60-year-old woman fell inside an unmapped region of Mammoth Cave National Park Saturday.

The experienced caver was with the Cave Research Foundation when the fall took place, injuring her shoulder. The group had travelled 2.5 miles into the cave, which takes about two and a half hours to reach.

A member of the CRF group exited the cave just before midnight to alert authorities. Park staff, local medic and Edmonson County EMS assisted to rescue her.

The woman was able to walk out of the cave and exited around 9:15 a.m. on Sunday. She was transported to the local hospital for her injuries.
