Raids target Baltimore mayor

(NBC News) Agents from the FBI and IRS launched multiple raids targeting Baltimore, Maryland Mayor Katherine Pugh early Thursday.

Search warrants were executed at Pugh’s home, city hall and the Maryland Center for Adult Training. Three of the mayors aides are listed as board members of that organization.

An FBI spokesman says the warrants are sealed and no additional information was released.

The raids, launched at 6:30 a.m., also targeted the home of former mayoral aide Gary Brown Jr. and a law firm working for Pugh.

Mayor Pugh was already under investigation by the Maryland Office of the State Prosecutor for sales of her “Healthy Holly” children’s books.

She sold a half million dollars worth of books to the University of Maryland Medical Center while she was a board member, and also received more than $100,000 for her self-published books from Kaiser Permanente while the company was seeking $48 million from a Baltimore City Board controlled by the mayor.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan says the sales of the books are deeply disturbing because the Maryland Medical Center receives significant public funding.
