Trump threatens ‘sanctuary cities’ plan

(NBC News) President Donald Trump says he’s “giving very strong consideration” to a plan to bus detained immigrants to so-called sanctuary cities.

The president made that clear on Friday, reviving an idea that was twice shelved by his administration, amid concerns of whether it’s legal.

On Twitter Saturday, the president claimed the U.S. has an “absolute legal right” to send immigrants awaiting asylum to sanctuary cities.

A White House official, who confirmed the broad outlines of the proposal Friday morning, pushed back on the idea that it was meant as retaliation toward political rivals.

All this, as Washington awaits the redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, which is expected to be released this week. The report found no collusion between Russia and the trump campaign, but reached no conclusion on obstruction of justice.
