25-foot-tall community Christmas tree in downtown BG
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-SKyPAC is getting in the Christmas spirit…with the addition of the first community Christmas tree!
The 25-foot-tall tree was donated by the Downtown Redevelopment Authority. BGMU crews were there today to put up the tree and place the lights.
There’s a very cool aspect to the tree- local artist Randall Erskine is creating a tree topper star made of the debris from the December tornadoes.
They are hoping this becomes an annual tradition.
“It shows the spirit of Christmas. And this is a community Christmas tree. As Rob had expressed to me, they wanted something that would give back to the community and that the community would enjoy and that just fit right in with what we do,” said DRA Executive Director Ron Murphy.
It’s also a very festive addition to the gingerbread homes for the arts festival that’s going on this week. Staff will announce lighting and dedication dates later this month.
