1,800 outages left in Farmers RECC outage area, crews continue working

GLASGOW, Ky. – Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation is sharing an update on power outages in its service area following severe weather.

According to a release by Farmers RECC, crews made significant progress, with a total of 1,800 outages left.

Farmers RECC says throughout the outage, crews discovered additional issues, counting 19 broken poles.

In addition, the co-op says East Kentucky Power Cooperative successfully replaced a transformer in the Knob Lick substation, which serves Metcalfe County. However, Farmers RECC says its crews will continue working in this area to make needed repairs for power restoration.

The company says it expects power restoration to continue Thursday. The co-op says it will not stop working until all of its members are restored.

Members who rely on oxygen or other electricity-dependent medical devices are advised to make alternate arrangements.

Why does my neighbor have power while I don’t?

If a member notices their neighbor has power but they don’t, the release says this can be due to a home being served on a different substation, line or transformer or damage at a service line or service connection point.

Members are encouraged to check their panel box to see that no circuit breakers have tripped, according to Farmers RECC.

For those without power, the company says to check their weatherhead/service connection, which will require repair if it is damaged before power can safely be reconnected.

What if my power is out and I see daily usage readings?

Members may see daily usage readings on Wednesday despite being without power.

According to Farmers RECC, the metering system estimated daily usage based on historical data when a meter does not communicate. Once the power is restored and communication is re-established, Farmers RECC says the meter will reset to reflect actual usage.

Crews will continue working Wednesday. Farmers RECC says its next update will be at 8 p.m.
