1 dead, 1 flown after two-vehicle crash in Barren County

UPDATE (Sept. 16 at 11:56 a.m.) – The Kentucky State Police has released further details on a fatal crash that occurred in Barren County Wednesday morning.

According to a release by KSP, one victim has been identified as 40-year-old Martin Hernandez, who was pronounced dead on scene. The other victim, 21-year-old Adrick Ward of Glasgow, a passenger in Hernandez’s vehicle, was flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center.

Troopers say a preliminary investigation shows a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Brock Lykins of Glasgow was traveling north on 31-E. Authorities say Lykins lost control of his vehicle and crossed the centerline, colliding with a vehicle driven by Hernandez.

Lykins was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, where he will be treated for his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. He was assisted at the scene by the Barren County Sheriff’s Office, Barren County EMS, and other KSP personnel.

Additional details have not been released at this time.

UPDATE (Sept. 16 11:20 a.m.) – Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Trooper Katan Parker says authorities have reopened both lanes of travel.

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Kentucky State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Barren County.

KSP Public Affairs Officer Trooper Katan Parker says troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at approximately 7:10 a.m. Wednesday at Scottsville Road and Old Scottsville Road Loop Third Road.

Parker says there is one confirmed fatality. Another victim was transported for treatment and later flown to an area hospital.

Investigators are currently at the scene reconstructing the crash. The roadway will be closed and motorists are asked to find an alternate route.

The victim has not been identified.
