Under 200 outages left after 5,200 reported without power after storms

GLASGOW, Ky. – Significant progress has been made in restoring power outages following recent severe weather across south-central Kentucky.

In an update Thursday, Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, or Farmers RECC, says it has restored thousands of outages, bringing the current number down to 184.

This is a large contrast compared to nearly 5,200 power outages just days ago.

Since then, the National Weather Service Louisville has confirmed a preliminary EF-2 tornado caused damage Tuesday night in Grayson and Hart counties, while a preliminary EF-1 struck Metcalfe County.

“We know our members without power are frustrated, we are too. But we will not stop until we have everyone on. We know it’s frustrating to not know exactly when the power will be back on. This phase of our restoration will be the most tedious process of storm recovery,” stated Farmers RECC on Thursday.

Many of the remaining outages are impacting smaller groups or single members, according to the company. This means crews will only be able to restore a few members at a time.

Farmers RECC thanks Inter-County Energy, Blue Grass Energy, Nolin RECC, Taylor County RECC, 5 Star Electric, Groves Electrical Services, Townsend Tree Service and Steel Rock Services for assistance.

Farmers RECC says each individual outage is different and will present its own unique challenges. As members look toward repair work, Farmers RECC says they should contact their county electrical inspector to complete that work.

Farmers RECC says its goal is zero outages, and it will continue to work until all members have service.
