Troopers investigating after human remains found in Knott County

AMBURGEY, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says it is conducting a death investigation after human remains were found in Knott County on Monday morning.

Authorities say the remains were located shortly after 10 a.m. during a search along the 2000 block of Big Branch Road in the Amburgey community.

Troopers say they worked alongside volunteer search and rescue personnel and K-9 handlers from Indiana K-9 United to search a wooded area at this location.

According to authorities, the Knott County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and pronounced the individual dead. The remains have been transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy and positive identification.

The investigation remains ongoing.
