Troopers investigating after human remains found in Harlan County

HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says it is investigating after human remains were located in Harlan County on Tuesday.

According to Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer for KSP Post 10, at about 6:18 p.m., troopers were notified of an active investigation in the River Ridge area of the Evarts community along Highway 38.

Authorities say human remains were located at the scene.

Additional details, including identifying information, have not been released.

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Department, Harlan County Coroner’s Office and Evarts Fire Department also assisted troopers in this ongoing case. News 40 will provide additional updates as they are released.
