Tompkinsville man accused of firing gun during confrontation

TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A Tompkinsville man is accused of firing a gun during a verbal argument.
According to a uniform citation, an officer contacted dispatch about hearing a gunshot in the area of West Fourth Street and Emberton Street.
Authorities say the Tompkinsville Police Department responded to the scene, where officers observed multiple individuals in a verbal confrontation in a yard of Martin Apartments and in the roadway of Emberton Street.
Police say the victim stated his child had returned home and had been threatened by 33-year-old Dimitrious Blevins of Tompkinsville.
Authorities say the victim stated he then went to the apartment to confront Blevins.
Upon his arrival, the victim says Blevins drew a handgun before the victim reported hearing a gunshot.
At this time, authorities say the victim allegedly became “verbally combative,” and a confrontation ensued.
Authorities say while speaking with Blevins, he admitted there had been a confrontation involving juveniles, that the victim arrived on scene and that Blevins drew a handgun. However, police say Blevins denied firing a shot.
After seeing a round of ammunition in Blevins’ residence was missing and after a field inspection, authorities say they learned the top round inside of the magazine appeared newer and did not match other rounds.
Blevins was arrested and remains at the Barren County Detention Center on a charge of first-degree wanton endangerment – discharge of a firearm.
