FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf announced “unusual discoveries” made by the state treasury this Halloween season.

According to a release, the state found everything from family heirlooms to teeth, hair, and socks.

“Some of the items we encounter may surprise people, but our mission is simple: return property to its rightful owners,” said Treasurer Metcalf. “Whether it’s forgotten money or a treasured family keepsake, every item has a story.”

The state has located cremated human remains in abandoned safe deposit boxes.

“When human remains are discovered, the Treasury works respectfully to identify and locate the family members,” the state said in a release.
