State police investigate Scottsville home invasion shootings, one dead

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – Two people forced themselves into a home in Scottsville late Saturday night and shot two of the home’s four occupants in the head. One of the victims died Sunday morning in a Nashville, Tenn. hospital.

A child and one other person were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured.

Scottsville police were called to 605 N. Third Street after 10 p.m., SPD Chief Jeff Pearson said. Pearson requested Kentucky State Police to investigate at just after 10:30 p.m.

The two victims, Charles A. Hopewell, 21, and Alyssia M. Rodriguez, 21, had heard a knock at their door. Hopewell answered the door and no one was there, KSP Post 3 spokesman Jeremy Hodges said. Then the couple heard a second knock. When they answered the door, two unknown assailants forced their way into the home and shot both Hopewell and Rodriguez in the head.

Hopewell’s wound was a graze type of wound. He was treated and released from a hospital. Rodriguez sustained a critical injury and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she died Sunday morning, Hodges said.

The child and the other occupant of the home were in another room when the shootings occurred.

Police do not have any description of the shooters, he said.
