Special Olympics Area 5 Track and Field meet returns to Bowling Green Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Special Olympics Kentucky Area 5 Track and Field Meet will return to Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green on Saturday, April 25.
According to a release on Tuesday, the Area 5 Meet includes more than 170 athletes from Allen, Barren, Butler, Christian, Green, Logan, Todd and Warren counties. The event gets underway with Opening Ceremonies, including the parade of athletes, at 8 a.m. The competition begins at 9 a.m.
Organizers say this is the second of three weekends of the Special Olympics Area Track and Field season, which concludes May 9 in Louisville.
The Area 5 Track and Field Meet is one of eight regional meets held statewide this year. In all, nearly 1,100 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state are expected to participate in area track and field competitions this year.
Participants in the Area 5 Track & Field Meet are competing for the opportunity to advance to the Special Olympics Kentucky State Summer Games to be held June 5-7 at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
