South Warren, Russellville compete in KHSAA 2021 UK Orthopedics Football State Championship
LEXINGTON, KY. – Over the weekend the South Warren Spartans and Russellville Panthers traveled to Kroger Field to take part in the 2021 UK Orthopedics Football State Championship.
On Friday, Russellville lost to Pikeville, 30-27. After some defensive struggles in the first half, the Panthers didn’t allow a single point for the rest of the game.
Quarterback Lennon Ries went 6-for-15 throwing 97 yards with one touchdown. Jaquis Todd ran for 134 yards with two touchdowns.
This was the first time Russellville appeared in the state final since 1990.
The next day, the South Warren Spartans dominated the Frederick Douglass Broncos, 38-26, taking home the schools third state title in the last nine year.
Quarterback Caden Veltkamp went 19-for-24 throwing for 295 yards with 3 touchdowns. The game’s MVP was Tyler Snell.
The Bowling Green Purples won last year’s state title for the 5A class.
