Russellville man charged after allegedly fleeing police while under the influence, police say

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – A wanted Russellville man is facing several charges after fleeing police.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted a traffic stop on US 68 East for a possible DUI and outstanding warrants for the vehicle’s registered owner at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say 31-year-old Carlos Valle Espinoza, of Russellville, would not exit his vehicle and fled the scene.

Deputies and Russellville police officers pursued Espinoza at speeds as high as 100 mph. Officers say Espinoza crossed into opposing traffic and attempted to strike law enforcement vehicles during the pursuit.

During the pursuit, officers deployed tire-deflation devices and Espinoza eventually drove into a field between Stevenson Mill Road and Bowling Green Road.

Police say Espinoza exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Espinoza was later located and arrested. He was served with three outstanding warrants for prior offenses, including DUI, no insurance, and fleeing or evading police.

Espinoza is charged with the following after the pursuit:

• Fleeing or evading police, first degree—motor vehicle and on foot
• DUI, second offense, aggravated circumstances
• Attempted assault, second degree—police officer (two counts)
• Wanton endangerment, first degree—police officer (six counts)
• Obstructing governmental operations
• Resisting arrest
• Criminal mischief, first degree
• Possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle
• Multiple traffic offenses, including speeding, reckless driving, no operator’s license, disregarding traffic controls, and improper lane use, passing, and turning

Espinoza was lodged at the Logan County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
