Being pregnant is considered a risk factor for suffering a severe case of COVID-19, but experts say women should consult their physician before taking the vaccine. WNYT's Benita Zahn reports.

(NBC News) — Being pregnant is considered a risk factor for suffering a severe case of COVID, and that can put the developing baby at risk. However, there’s limited data on the effect of the vaccine itself.

Those studies are still being compiled.

Some 10,000 pregnant women in the U.S. have been vaccinated, most of them frontline workers. There have been no red flags so far, and many experts don’t believe the vaccine crosses the placenta.
