New multi-purpose tennis sports complex breaks ground at Michael O. Buchanon Park
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A multi-purpose tennis sports complex is broke ground tonight at Michael O. Buchanon Park.
The Warren County Fiscal Court unanimously approved the construction of the complex earlier in August, although they say the project was in the works and under discussion for years prior.
Park officials say it will take about a year to build and the entire project will cost around $8.2 million.
Once completed, the facility will house 12 tennis courts, a couple of racquetball courts and an indoor playground. Staff say that they will be able to host all kinds of events and tennis tournaments.
Warren County Public Works Director Josh Moore said what this means for the economy.
“There are people in the tennis community who travel to Louisville, to Nashville, to Indiana, to have these types of tournaments. We can now keep them here. We’re close to I-65, we can bring them to our town. The revenue for the tourism for that people who are buying gas, shopping in our stores, and eating in our restaurants,” said Moore.
The sports complex will also be able to host soccer and football games that are indoors.
