Natcher Elementary holds annual Derby Parade
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Natcher Elementary School held its annual Derby Parade, giving students a chance to celebrate the Kentucky Derby with their own arts and crafts.
From decorated skateboards with spinning horses, to mini parade floats made by the students themselves, each student represented their own version of Kentucky spirits.
Ellen Buselmeier, a Natcher Elementary teacher, said keeping the tradition going is what she hopes the students take with them in life.
“Its been a tradition ever since I’ve been here,” Buselmeier said. “The first-grade class always gets to create the derby floats at home and bring them to school and show off their creativity. it’s just important to keep the Kentucky unbridled spirit alive and everybody excited about derby.”
Some of the students are thrilled about the ‘Run for Roses’ and can’t wait to enjoy themselves with their family.
“It feels awesome when I’m out there,” said one student.
You can watch the 152nd Derby on WNKY NBC 40.
