Med Center Health nationally recognized for heart attack care
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Med Center Health has been nationally recognized for its commitment to quality care for severe heart attacks in south central Kentucky.
The hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Plus Achievement Award for the care they offer to patients who suffer the most severe type of heart attack.
A ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction, also known as STEMI, is caused by a complete blockage of blood flow to the heart. Doctors must restore blood flow quickly to avoid death, by opening the blocked vessel or by using clot-busting medication.
Over 250,000 people experience a STEMI heart attack each year.
“I’m just extremely proud and knowing that all the challenges that we had with the pandemic and all those obstacles it has caused us we’re still able to deliver that level of care the community deserves and we’re gonna keep doing that as long as we possibly can for sure,” said Director of EMS Jim Berry.
This is the fourth year Med Center Health has gotten the honor.
