Man clocked driving 143 mph jailed after running out of gas

Arrest

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky authorities were able to take into custody a man clocked driving more than twice the speed limit, but only after his Ford Mustang ran out of gas on the Bluegrass Parkway. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says Steven Alford was driving 143 mph in a 70 mph zone Saturday afternoon. Officials said that after a lengthy chase, the 47-year-old motorist stopped his car when he ran out of gas. Authorities said Alford refused to exit the vehicle and officers had to assist him out. He was charged with nearly a dozen traffic violations and other crimes. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney who can comment for him.
